Description: Introducing Aeonium ‘Mayfield’.
‘Mayfield’ is a unique little cultivar and very special to us as it is one of the first hybrids we created here at Aeonium Australia.
When creating hybrids, you never know how they may turn out and whether they will develop desirable traits such as beautiful colours or have an interesting form and therefore worthy of keeping and growing on? This is not a quick process and it often takes years to determine a hybrids merit.
So as we adore this little creation and as we have also received a huge amount of positive feedback, we are excited to now offer it into the succulent world and we hope you will all like it as much as we do.
‘Mayfield’ is a small growing cultivar which will branch out quickly and produce an abundance of offsets, forming a small cluster. The leaves are slightly thick and fleshy and have a very lovely soft velvety feel, which is a characteristic trait inherited from one of the parent species Aeonium lindleyi var. lindleyi. Additionally, the young rosettes develop a stunning pinky/red stem which blends perfectly with the soft tones of the green foliage.
The foliage colour is a delicate mix of pastel greens, with the colour shades forever slightly changing with the seasons. Through out summer and when grown hard, the foliage will turn a lovely shade of yellow and develop a red tinge on the tips of the older leaves.
Plant Care: Plants are quick growing, hardy and easy to look after. Although very tolerant of direct sunshine, it is recommended that plants are protected from the hot afternoon sun throughout summer. At times the foliage can also feel slightly viscid (sticky) and this tends to attract small amounts of dirt or debris which can make the plants look a little dirty. Simply grow plant protected undercover or periodically wash the foliage clean with a good spray of water
Origins: A hybrid involving Aeonium lindleyi var. lindleyi which was created by Glenn Barber here at Aeonium Australia.
